It Figures

I escaped from my continuing education ordeal today. I now have 47 credits to meet my 45 credits by June 30th requirement. I feel liberated. To celebrate I went to an auction near my home. It was the best auction of the season! I did great.

The grandmother had great taste and a very eclectic eye. We would have gotten along very well. There weren’t too many people there and only a couple of them were real bidders. I bought two ships figure heads. They were restaurant decor in Bloomfield Michigan until it redecorated in the 1950's. They are old and may be real because they had been in the restaurant since before World War II. She is over 6 feet tall and he is a little shorter.

I also bought a table of framed items. I bought the remainder for about a dozen items for $10. Included in the group was this photograph of Winston Churchill. It is signed and dated Feb. 1935. The signature looks like those that I found on the internet. I haven’t taken it out of the frame yet to see if the signature is in ink or printed. However in an envelop attached to the back was a little note “With Mr. Churchill’s compliments.” This could get real interesting.

I Are Now Edjukated

Its been a boring month. I have a professional licensing requirement to do 45 hours of continuing education every three years. My reporting period ends on June 30th and as of June 1st I had achieved about 2 hours. So for the month of June I have been continuingly educated.

I bought a 45.5 hour webcast package for the month of June. Its good because I can view the educating on my computer without having to travel to MSP. That convenience means no travel time and no parking problems but it also means that the course selection does not match my interests. I have been licenced for 37 years (I started when I was 11) so the two courses related to begining practitioners probably were not well targeted.

The need to get edjukated has cut into my picking time. On many of these beautiful summer days I have been pasted to my computer rather than picking or cleaning or fixing.

The classwork runs through Thursday of this week. So I have a picking expedition scheduled for FRIDAY. We are headed see a guy in SW Minnesota who has contacted us. We will leave early, we will drive far, we will turn over every rock and we’ll get home late and tired. I will be edjukated and I will be much happier than I am right now listening to 3 professionals pontificate on some obscure area.

A Great Copper Ceiling Light

I put together a great hanging light today.  Standing out on the driveway on a beautiful summer morning here on the tundra I put together the pieces that I've been assembling for a couple of months.  The pyramidal shaped "shade" was found on our picking trip to West Duluth.  I am not sure what it was in its real life, maybe the hood from a chick brooder, but it is the only one that I've ever found made with sheet copper.

I'm Ready for June at Second Hand Rose Buffalo

I spent most of the day on Sunday at Second Hand Rose in Buffalo, Minnesota. I was setting up my space for the 4 day June sale that starts on Thursday. And I was sufferring with my usual problem: stuffing 300 square feet of junk into my 78 square foot space. I have 2 large hardware store bins, a large work bench, an eight unit locker set and a warehouse cart. In addition I have an oak file cabinet and assorted smaller tables and chairs. I still have more smalls to smear over all these "not smalls".

This beautiful work bench would make a great kitchen sink or bathroom vanity counter.

There is an arts and crafts style filing cabinet sitting atop the work bench with the green lockers behind and the warehouse cart underneath.

Nice red utility lamp that we picked last week.

Great school hanging map case with all nine maps still intact.

The wooden head is more interesting than the almost new riding helemt.

It Looks Pretty Good

I finished the work bench in time for the sale at Second Hand Rose.  I think that it will make a great kitchen sink counter or vanity or even a computer desk.

Before

After

It was a heavy tiring dance, but I got it into my space in Buffalo.  I now need to sit down and rest my bones.
