I Hate Halloween

Maybe it's sacrilege, but I hate Halloween. I have always hated Halloween. Even as a kid I had no interest in spooks, Trick or Treat or stale candy corn. I don't want phony scares (there are too many genuinely scary things in the real world). I like the barely walking little ones coming to the door in an embarrassingly weird costume and mom or dad standing a few feet behind protecting the process, but the gangs of preteens sweeping down on my homestead are somewhere between aggravating and contemptuous. I don't want to wear a costume, attend a Halloween party or otherwise participate in any of the hoopla.

Halloween has apparently become the 2nd most celebrated "holiday" in the year. More money is spent, more time is taken, more decorations are posted than any other holiday except Christmas. That is a shame. Its not a holiday. Real holidays like Memorial Day or 4th of July celebrate achievements or events or purposes. Halloween celebrates candy and black cats and witches.

I love Thanksgiving, like Christmas (but not all the hype around it), love 4th of July, mourn Memorial Day and don't understand New Years Eve. Labor Day, Martin Luther King Day and Columbus Day are only excuses for long weekends and another day off for government employees. Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday were important when they celebrated the 2 most celebratable Presidents but became another long weekend throwaway when they were consolidated into Presidents Day. Easter is the most important day in history and Independence Day is second on that list.

But at the bottom of the list is Halloween. No ghosts, no scary movies, no fake spider webs or candy for me. I guess its just BOOOOOO-humbug!!

I agree with you to!!! My son didn't trick-or-treat anywhere but at my Mom's house! Does it make me a bad mother? I don't think so....

but I do like candy corn. LOL I eat them one color at a time.

I'm with you too! And actually, it all started as a real holiday (Holy Day is where holiday comes from) in the Catholic Church and continues. Oct. 31 is All Souls Day (not a Holy Day) but Nov. first is All Saints Day (a Holy Day of obligation). All to celebrate and remember those who have died. Then the "world" comes in and does their take on it. I found you through Robelyn's blog. I'll need to read more!
